The One-Stop Guide to a Destination Engagement Session

Have you dreamed of getting married as waves crash behind you on the shores of a beach, or imagined you and your fiance in wedding attire walking hand-in-hand through a mountain range? How about snapping pictures while fresh flowers encircle you for a “royal” looking elopement at a chateau in France?

For many couples, the reality is that their wedding budget doesn’t allot for a destination wedding getaway. Luckily, this doesn’t mean you can’t document your love story in the location your heart is set on. With a destination engagement session, your “dream location” can be a reality! Destination engagement photos give you the vibe you’ve always dreamed of, while being more budget-friendly than a destination wedding.

Would a destination engagement session be for me?

There are many reasons that a couple may consider planning a Destination Engagement Session. Some include:

  • You can’t afford to have a destination wedding, but have envisioned a particular destination for your celebration.

  • You want a different look between your engagement photos, and the photos that will be captured on your wedding day.

  • You and your future spouse are from different cities/states/countries, and want to be able to honor both places in your celebration of marriage.

  • The location that you wanted on your wedding day won’t be feasible, or allowed based on your guest list (certain state parks, beaches, historical sites, etc.)

  • You are planning to propose while on vacation with your future spouse, and would like engagement pictures in that location.

MEGAN’S D.E. SESSIONs

One of my favorite destination engagement sessions was with a sweet couple— Grant and Sarah. They chose to travel to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and experience the magic of the beautiful streets, parks and countryside that Arkansas has to offer. Take a look at the gallery below, including some of their engagement photos!

The following destinations aren’t a complete list of possibilities; they’re just a few suggestions to help get you brainstorming. There are beautiful locations all over the world, and with me as your photographer, there are no limits on where you can travel. Destination engagement sessions are priced to include my travel costs, simplifying the booking process for you.

Malahide Castle in Dublin, Ireland

Malahide Castel and Gardens is a beautiful, lush castle in the countryside of Dublin, Ireland.

The Cities of Cinque Terre, Italy

The Cities of Cinque Terre are located in Cinque Terre Italy. This location has beautiful, clear blue water, a colorful cityscape, and rolling green mountainsides.

Beaver Creek, Colorado

Beaver Creek Colorado is surrounded by the magnificent Rocky Mountains. In the wintertime, you can expect pine trees lit up with Christmas lights, warm log cabins caked in snow, and an enormous outdoor skating rink in the middle of the city. In the summer, the mountainside cascades with green, and the cities flow with rock-filled fountains.

Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona, Spain is a stunning city that offers vibrant colors, moody street alleys, castles and beaches.

HOW DO I GET STARTED WITH MY D.E. SESSION?

how to plan for your Destination Engagement Session

Follow these simple steps to get started!

  1. Find a location — This is the fun part. The “destination” element of this session is essential! If there is a place you have been wanting to visit for a long time or a place you’ve already been planning to visit for vacation, this is the perfect opportunity to document your engagement there!

  2. Contact me to schedule and book your session — I’ve priced my destination engagement sessions to include my travel costs, and make the booking process even easier. For select locations on my photo bucket list, I’ll waive a portion of the travel fees.

  3. We plan the session of your dreams! — Certain locations require a permit or have other restrictions; I’ll take care of all these details for you, as well as do some preliminary location scouting to be sure we find the best areas for photos.
