To the Bride Feeling the Pressure of Perfection

Does this sound like you?

Your wedding means more to you than just another event on the calendar, but at the same time, you want it to be a day that feels, well, perfect.

A dress you feel beautiful in.
A timeline that doesn’t have any hiccups.
A breathtaking venue.
An actually good reception dinner.
A fun, engaging guest experience.

All of these things are good, but if they’re leading you to overwhelm, here’s what I’d love to tell you: I completely understand how you feel.

I remember it was a week after Tanner, my now husband, had proposed, and I was starting to research wedding venues and caterers while starting my first wedding Pinterest board. No specific vision for the day yet. I just knew I wanted Italian food for dinner and a pretty venue that wasn’t a barn.

Just a few days into my planning, I think I had my first panic attack.
There were so many options.

You’d need a whole spreadsheet to keep track of all the vendors’ quotes. A hundred more decisions needed to be made than what I was expecting. I was getting married in the summer, so “summer colors” seemed like the best choice for florals and bridesmaid dresses. Except I like darker fall colors, but is that weird for a summer wedding?

It felt like there was a correct formula by which to plan my wedding, and I couldn’t figure it out.

If I could go back in time, I’d give my younger self a hug and tell her it’s okay. While there isn’t one “right” way to plan your wedding, I do have a few helpful suggestions:

  • Make a wedding budget that prioritizes what’s most important to you.

  • Make decisions that align with how you and your partner want the day to feel and look.

  • Don’t give a second thought to what someone else’s opinion might be.

  • However the day unfolds, it will be enough. Your worth isn’t dependent on how “perfect” your wedding day goes.

Oh, and if possible, hiring a wedding planner is absolutely worth it!
